Tool #11/Reflections

1. Some of my favorite tools are...Digital Storytelling, Video Resources, Skype, and Mobile Apps.
I plan on implementing these new tools by first introducing my students to the Five Little Monkeys. We will watch the video on You Tube, read the story, sing the song, re watch the video, dramatize Five Little Monkeys, record them and watch them on video.

2. I have transformed my learning by realizing different technology avenues I can use at the pre-k level to advance their learning in a more hands on/interactive manner.

3. I was surprised at my ability to maneuver through this summer workshop.

Tool #11

Concerning Digital Citizenship, I feel it is of utmost imortance for us to mmodel for our four year olds appropriate computer care. This will be the first time many of them will have even touched a computer. I think we need to take this down to a very basic level for them. We should impress upon them...

1. The understanding that the computer is not a toy. Trucks in the block center can be used rough and tough but our computers are extra special, costing lots of money. We need to be extra gentle with our computer like we are gentle with our friends.
2. We need to encourage them to have mutual respect while visiting websites and using Skype (friendly faces etc.)
3. Encourage the importance of sharing our special computers and itouches. When the timer goes off invite your next friend for their turn.

Tool #10

Alphabet Train, Read Me Stories, Shape Builder Lite. All of these are free i touch apps that would be beneficial for our pre-k friends. They would encourage fine motor skills, auditory skills and hand eye coordination. These could be used similar to centers, once introduced and shown the appropriate way to use the itouch, students could use on an independent level with supervision.

Tool #9

In Tool #9 Jing was researched. That will be beneficial as a teacher as an additional teaching tool. We will be able to research our teaching topic, share with students and use Jing to have an instant image to help represent our teaching point. Skype is another online feature to share a message with a face. Through the district, we could share/visit with our fellow pre-k students and teachers on a regular basis. This could be done at the state level as well. Concerning an even broader spectrum, our students could have "Skype Pals" learning and sharing through out the world with other four and five year olds.

Tool #8

While using this tool, I became familiar with several, very cute, nursery rhyme videos. I will definitely use these in the classroom to help promote listening skills, rhyming and motor skills as we act out and sing the various nursery rhymes.

Tool #7

This tool was handy and educational. Our Pre-k friends are a bit young to produce these videos however, they would be enjoyed as a class effort and use a few of their voices at a time or kid friendly music. Would be great for project studies, units, stories and dramatization.

Tool #2

Building an online education community will enable educators with similiar interest, skills and goals to have a continues exchange of ideas and learning. From the 5 blogs i learned the importance of being open to new ideas, be respectful of other's ideas, remain attentive to the conversation at hand as well as be willing to add one's own thoughts to the conversation at hand. This types of online relationship will enable continued peer learning that will enhance the educational growth of our students. The 5 blogs that I reviewed were...
1.Cool Cat Teacher Blog
2.Weblogg-ed
3.2 cents worth
4.Always learning
5.Blue Skunk
